Tamil director-screenwriter Rathna Kumar's upcoming film 29 promises an intense, unconventional romance. The film's trailer was launched by Rathna Kumar's frequent collaborator, director Lokesh Kanagaraj, on social media.
"Here’s the #29TheFilm TRAILER guys Need all your love and support https://youtu.be/qWSGdwHeKD4 This is for you @MrRathna," he wrote on X.
Starring Vidhu and Preethi Asrani in the lead, the trailer takes us through the passionate and often turbulent love story between Viji and Sathya. Viji is 21 when she meets the 29-year-old Sathya, beginning a breezy college romance in the trailer. The film's title is perhaps a nod at the coming-of-age of a 29-year-old, as he navigates his volatile personal and professional life.
Produced by Karthik Subbaraj and Lokesh Kanagaraj's production banners, STONE BENCH STUDIO and GSQUAD, the upcoming film will have music by Sean Roldan. Rathna Kumar is behind films such as Meyaadha Maan (2017) and Aadai (2019). The filmmaker has also contributed to the script of Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo (2023), and the dialogue of Master (2021) and Vikram (2022).
Kanagaraj, who will next direct Allu Arjun's Telugu film, will also be making his acting debut with the upcoming film DC. The film's title teaser was released earlier last year. In the video, Kanagaraj is introduced as Devadas in a signature back shot, like the filmmaker introduced his characters in the movie Coolie. We also see him walking down the narrow corridor of a lodge, carrying a blood-soaked knife. Wamiqa Gabbi’s character, Chandra, can be seen picking a condom packet as she sees Devdas make his way towards her. The teaser also ends with a still from the Hollywood classic Bonnie and Clyde (1967), suggesting that the duo could be criminals who work together.
The film, directed by Arun Matheswaran, recently wrapped up filming, and co-stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy.
