A local court in Nampally, Hyderabad, has summoned actor Allu Arjun and 19 others in connection with the stampede that occurred outside the Sandhya Theatre in Chikkadpally, during the premiere of his last blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule on December 4, 2024.
The stampede killed a 39-year-old woman named Revathi, who had attended the premiere with her husband and two children. Her younger son, Sritej, managed to escape but sustained severe injuries, along with several others who also got injured. Earlier, Arjun supported the victim's family by providing medical help for the son.
The police noted a total of 23 names in the chargesheet, with the actor being listed as accused No.11 (A11) in the case. According to the police, the overcrowding was caused by fans waiting to catch a glimpse of Arjun, and those accused were not only premiere attendees, but also the security, theatre officials, and other event management personnel.
The stampede was followed by a swarm of fans and film watchers creating chaos around the venue. This triggered a high-profile investigation and debate into crowd management and security measures, not only regarding this incident but in the Telugu film industry as a whole.
Last year in January, Arjun appeared before the Chikkadpally police for the same case as part of the bail granted to him. To comply with the proceedings of the case, the court directed him to appear in person on June 22.
