Yash Raj Films has unveiled the first teaser of Alpha, the seventh film in its Spy Universe, introducing Alia Bhatt as Sita and Bobby Deol as her mentor-father Baba. Framed as an origin story, the teaser traces Sita’s brutal childhood training into an elite assassin, culminating in her first mission at 18. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the film now targets a July 3, 2026 theatrical release after a delay for extensive visual effects work.
Yash Raj Films on Wednesday released the debut teaser of Alpha, the next installment in its Spy Universe franchise. The film, headlined by Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol, also stars Sharvari and Anil Kapoor. The newly released visual unit offers the first look at the characters played by Bhatt and Deol.
Directed by Shiv Rawail, who previously helmed the Netflix series The Railway Men, and produced by Aditya Chopra, Alpha is the seventh installment of the YRF Spy Universe.
The teaser frames the film as an origin story centred on Sita, played by Bhatt, trained to become an assassin by her father, Baba, played by Deol.
It begins on her 18th birthday when she is assigned to her first mission by her father, followed by throwbacks to her younger self undergoing training throughout her childhood. While Deol’s character does not refer to her by her name throughout the teaser, a brief shot at the end of the teaser shows the names of the father-daughter duo scribbled on a wall.
The film was earlier scheduled for a December 25, 2025, theatrical release but was later postponed. According to the studio, the delay was due to the additional time required for the film’s visual effects work.
Alpha was teased in a post-credit sequence in 2025's War 2. In the scene, a gruff Deol appeared on screen, tattooing the sign of Alpha — the first letter of the Greek alphabet — on a young girl’s arm. He tells the girl (Bhatt’s character) that 'Alpha' means "the fast, the fastest, the strongest.”
