The trailer for Awarapan 2 reintroduces Emraan Hashmi’s Shivam Pandit, now older and roughened, captured and dragged back into a violent past he tried to escape. Set for an August 14 theatrical release, the film blends rain-soaked action, romance and moral conflict, with Disha Patani entangled in Shivam’s dangerous world and Shabana Azmi hinting at a powerful antagonist.
Vishesh Films released the trailer for Awarapan 2 on August 6, days ahead of the film's worldwide theatrical release on August 14. Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the film is the sequel to the cult 2007 Hindi film Awarapan (which was directed by Mohit Suri), and picks up nineteen years after the events of the original, following the story of Emraan Hashmi’s Shivam Pandit.
This sequel stars Hashmi alongside Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Suvinder Vicky, Vijayant Kohli, Atul Kumar, Aniruddh Rawal and Puran Gabbi.
The newly released trailer opens with a roughed up Shivam Pandit held captive, signalling his return to the criminal world he had left behind. His voiceover explains that his return is prompted by a debt he has to settle, with a line reminding audiences that he has an old relationship with death. Shivam's return seems to circle circumstances involving love, loss and unfinished confrontations.
The trailer establishes the film's visual register, packed with rain-soaked action scenes, dark lighting and urban locations. Patani plays the female lead, opposite Hashmi's character. While the trailer establishes her character as someone who becomes directly entangled in the danger Shivam carries with him, a quick scene shows Patani holding up a gun, hinting her possible involvement in the film's high-powered action sequences.
Shabana Azmi appears in the trailer in what appears to be a pivotal antagonistic supporting role. The film is also the acting debut of Aniruddh Rawal, actor Paresh Rawal's son.
Produced by Vishesh Bhatt and presented by Mukesh Bhatt under the Vishesh Films banner, the film's soundtrack is composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Mallik and Akhil Sachdeva. Lyrics are by Rashmi Virag, Akhil Sachdeva and Sayeed Quadri.
The album, distributed by Sony Music, includes a reimagined versions of the original chartbusters Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta, alongside new tracks like Ve Junoon and Yeh Awarapan.
