Tamizh Padam 3, the latest in CS Amudhan's experimental parody series, begins filming today. Actor Shiva returns as the lead, with a striking poster teasing an intergalactic theme. Backed by YNot Studios and AP International Films, the film continues the franchise's tradition of spoofing Tamil cinema conventions, aiming to deliver humor and absurdity.
Director CS Amudhan has announced today that Tamizh Padam 3, the third film in his experimental parody film franchise, begins principal photography today. The announcement was made through a poster shared on the director’s official social media channels. Actor Shiva, who has led both previous instalments of the franchise, returns in the lead role.
Amudhan's post on X read, "Bigger. Better. Out of this world. WE ARE BACK! #TamizhPadam3". The poster shared mentions that project begins filming today.
The poster sees Shiva, donning a black suit, with his back turned to the viewer, looking up at a UFO-style object in the sky. The black-and-blue toned poster strikes out Shiva's moniker 'Agila Ulaga Superstar' and writes, "Intergalactic Superstar Shiva in CS Amudhan's Tamizh Padam 3'.
The tagline following the film's title reads, "Alien Athiyayam".
According to the announcement, the film is backed by YNot Studios and AP International Films. Tamizh Padam 3 is produced by S Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra, the same producers as the prequel, Tamizh Padam 2.
No cast beyond Shiva has been officially announced, and no details about the film’s plot, production schedule or release timeline have been disclosed alongside the shoot commencement announcement.
Tamizh Padam 3 is the third installment in CS Amudhan’s Tamil film parody franchise. The first film, Tamizh Padam (2010), was a spoof of Tamil cinema conventions and starred Shiva alongside Disha Pandey, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is known as Tamil cinema's first feature-length spoof film.
The film found a significant audience and established a genre or a "new wave" of experimental films in the industry created from an outsider's perspective. It inspired a template which led to films that explored absurdist storytelling with realistic stories.
Tamizh Padam 2 followed in 2018, again directed by Amudhan and starring Shiva. The sequel also opened to mostly positive reviews, many critiqued that it lacked the absurdity of the first film, and that not all of its comedy worked as intended. .
