Kunal Kemmu’s spy comedy Vibe has taken a clear lead over Meghna Gulzar’s investigative drama Daayra at the box office. Vibe earned about ₹7.45 crore over its opening weekend, buoyed by strong word-of-mouth, while Daayra managed roughly ₹4.50 crore. Both mid-sized releases, however, are under pressure from holdover hits Mirzapur: The Movie and blockbuster Hanuman Ansh.
Two mid-sized Bollywood releases of contrasting genres collided at the box office last Friday. Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar arrived with her investigative procedural Daayra—headlined by Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran—while actor-filmmaker Kunal Kemmu served audiences his latest directorial venture, the spy comedy Vibe.
Over their opening weekend, Vibe emerged as the clear winner, outperforming Daayra across the first three days.
Featuring Sparsh Shrivastava and Preity Zinta alongside Kemmu, Vibe opened to ₹1.70 crore on Friday. Driven by strong word-of-mouth praise, the comedy registered a 60 percent jump on Saturday to net ₹2.75 crore, followed by a steady Sunday showing of ₹3 crore.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Vibe closed its opening weekend at an estimated ₹7.45 crore net.
Conversely, Daayra saw a softer start, collecting approximately ₹1 crore on Friday. The procedural witnessed a 75 percent surge on Saturday with ₹1.75 crore and held steady on Sunday with another ₹1.75 crore, bringing its cumulative opening weekend net collection to ₹4.50 crore.
While both new arrivals struggled to cross the double-digit mark over the weekend, the upcoming Monday test will be critical in determining their ultimate theatrical trajectories.
Adding to their challenges, both Vibe and Daayra faced stiff competition from holdover titles. Mirzapur: The Movie posted a robust third weekend total of over ₹12 crore—outgrossing all new releases—while the season's surprise blockbuster, Hanuman Ansh, continued its sensational run in its seventh weekend.
Hanuman Ansh netted a massive ₹13.75 crore on Sunday alone, bringing its 45-day domestic total to an estimated ₹271 crore.
Looking ahead, both Vibe and Daayra will face fresh competition this coming Friday, with the release of The Vvaan, a folklore adventure starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia.
