The Devil Wears Prada 2 storms the global box office with a $233.6 million opening weekend, the biggest live-action debut of 2026 and second-largest Hollywood launch this year. Reuniting Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, the $100 million sequel is poised to surpass the original’s $326.7 million lifetime gross by its second weekend.
Armed with massive anticipation and a global promotional rollout, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has registered the biggest live-action debut of 2026 and the second-biggest global opening weekend for a Hollywood film this year. The sequel to the beloved 2006 classic opened to smashing numbers, grossing a whopping $233.6 million worldwide in its first three days.
Against a reported production budget of $100 million, the film is off to a flying start and is expected to surpass the original film's entire lifetime collection of $326.7 million by its second weekend.
The film, which features the high-profile reunion of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, outpaced the opening of the Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, which grossed $217 million during its debut. However, a significant caveat remains: the numbers for Michael do not yet include two massive international markets. The biopic is set to open in South Korea on May 13 and Japan in June.
Despite this staggered rollout, Michael—starring the late pop icon's nephew, Jaafar Jackson and directed by Antoine Fuqua—has already shown incredible longevity, crossing the $400 million mark globally.
Currently, the record for the biggest global opening weekend of 2026 is held by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which earned a staggering $372 million. Meanwhile, the Ryan Gosling-led sci-fi epic Project Hail Mary continues its dominant run, recently crossing $600 million in total global earnings.
In India, The Devil Wears Prada 2 performed remarkably well, netting a solid ₹13.35 crore over its opening weekend, which was higher than the original Hindi release Ek Din. Backed by Aamir Khan, the romantic drama netted under ₹4 crore in its opening weekend. The film stars Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, making her Hindi debut.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who were also attached with the first film.
