Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment have unveiled the teaser of Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, ahead of its world premiere in TIFF’s Centrepiece section. Marking the first Indian Tamil selection at the festival in a decade, the Ilaiyaraaja-scored film opens worldwide on September 25, backed by producers Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.

Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment released the teaser for Dorothy, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, on August 5, ahead of the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Centrepiece section. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release later this year on September 25.

Starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth in leading roles, Dorothy is the first Indian Tamil film in a decade to be selected for the festival.

The teaser was presented on August 5 by actor and director Dhanush. In his post unveiling the teaser, the actor praised Subbaraj for the film's festival selection and expressed his pride for the same.

"Happy to unveil the teaser of Dorothy ! @karthiksubbaraj’s 10th film attains a monumental achievement of being selected by @TIFF_NET You’ve made Tamil Cinema proud dear Karthik !Worldwide Release - Sep 25th, 2026 !!" his post read.

With minimal dialogue and quick cuts teasing pivotal scenes from the film, the teaser offers a first glimpse into the film's world, introducing its visual register and the quiet intensity of its setting and central characters. With Keerthy Suresh's character shown to be the titular character, Dorothy, a quick reveal in the teaser hints that the film's male leads are named Karthi and Subbu, cleverly followed by Subbaraj's directorial title card.

The Tamil-language feature will champion an original score composed by the legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja in his milestone 1,540th film. The film is produced jointly by Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios and Oscar-winning producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain of Sikhya Entertainment, in association with Subbaraj's own Dhammam Films.

Dorothy marks Subbaraj's first collaboration with Guneet Monga Kapoor's production house Sikhya Entertainment, the Oscar-winning Indian production house behind The Elephant Whisperers.

The film's TIFF selection follows Angh, the Nagaland-set feature directed by Theja Rio, which was announced for TIFF 2026's Platform Competition earlier this year. Phoolan, a Prime Video original written and directed by Emmy-Award-winning filmmaker Richie Mehta, has also been selected for a Special Presentation at TIFF this year.
