Shraddha Kapoor returns to the big screen as the celebrated Lavani and Tamasha performer, with audiences praising her intense physical transformation, commanding presence, and the film’s emotionally charged, visually striking world.
Maddock Films and Kathpuli Creations have unveiled the teaser of Laxman Utekar's highly anticipated period-drama Eetha, based on the extraordinary story of Marathi folk artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar.
The film stars Shraddha Kapoor in the lead as Narayangaonkar, along with Randeep Hooda and Anant Joshi in prominent roles. Kapoor's last appearance on the big screen was in the horror-comedy Stree 2 in 2024. Two years later, she is making a return to the screen embodying a starkly different persona.
The film celebrates Narayangaonkar for her iconic Lavani and Tamasha performances. Not only did her talent transcend time and generations, she was also honoured by the President of India in 1957 and 1990 for her monumental contributions to India’s folk theatre tradition. Narayangaonkar passed away at the age of 74 and is fondly remembered for fighting for the welfare of other Tamasha artists.
The teaser offers a glimpse of the emotionally charged and powerful world Utekar has created to narrate the artist's story. While it has prompted widespread excitement with its visuals, talks of Kapoor's physical transformation have also spread on social media.
The film also marks Kapoor’s reunion with producer Dinesh Vijan after the success of the Stree franchise. It is produced Vijan's Maddock Films with Laxman Utekar and Karishma Sharma, and features music by the musical duo Ajay-Atul.
Eetha is set to release in theatres on August 28.
