Netflix India has announced a major expansion into three South Indian languages by committing to a slate that involves the streaming premiere of one South title every week for the rest of the year with films across Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Among the high profile OTT releases to follow soon include Dhanush and Mammootty’s Tamil film OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram, Vijay Deverakonda’s period Telugu drama Ranabaali and Nani’s Paradise, after their theatrical release windows.

The slate will also include a set of Netflix Originals across languages spanning both films and series. This includes Stephen, Takshakudu, The Game (Netflix’s first Tamil original series), the Telugu comedy Super Subbu (which released recently) and Legacy.

In a statement, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said, “By working with both established and emerging talent, we are bringing audiences the range of genres they love. What we are seeing is remarkable: these stories are not only succeeding at home, but travelling around the world — a testament to the authenticity, craft and originality of storytelling from the region.”

According to Netflix, the South Indian titles on the platform had made it to the Top 10 lists in 59 countries outside India in 2025, compared to 26 countries in 2024 and 17 in 2023. Globally, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films appeared in the Netflix Global Top 10 Non-English Films list for 39 out of 52 weeks in 2025.

Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment also spoke of the company’s long-term collaboration with Netflix. She stated, “Netflix stood behind Dragon when it was still just a story. It went on to become a top-five box-office hit and then found an entirely new audience on Netflix. When we wanted to make Blast — a female-led action film with very little precedent in Tamil cinema — Netflix backed that too. And with Love Today, we saw a simple gap: audiences wanted romantic comedies, but very few people were making them.”

“With thought partners like Netflix in the market, we're excited to push the creative envelope and deliver not just epic hits like Pushpa, but also story-forward, character-driven films like Dude that have found genuine love with audiences on Netflix,” said Naveen Yerneni, Co-Founder Mythri Movie Makers, referring to the Telugu market.

Director Elan’s Tamil romance Pyaar Prema Kalyanam will be the first title to release as part of this slate on Friday, August 21.
