The release of Bhargav Saikia's folk-horror film 'Bokshi' has been postponed to 4th December 2026 after receiving an 'A' certificate from CBFC's Revising Committee. The delay allows for a comprehensive promotional campaign targeting its primary audience, following its successful festival run at Rotterdam, Sitges, Neuchâtel, and SXSW Sydney.
Actor-director Bhargav Saikia's highly anticipated directorial debut film Bokshi has been postponed from its initial release date of October 9 to December 4, 2026.
In a statement released through the production banner's official Instagram page on October 8, the makers stated that this delay comes due to clearance received by the CBFC's Revising Committee granting an "A" certificate to the film. The delay gives a window to the makers to launch a promotional campaign for the film.
Earlier in the month, the film was referred to the Revising Committee from the Examining Committee of CBFC. Supernatural content, portrayal of witchcraft, and violent scenes were cited as reasons for the referral.
Bokshi premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025 and was chosen as the sole Indian entry to compete at the festivals of Sitges (Spain), Neuchâtel (Switzerland), and SXSW Sydney (Australia).
The plot revolves around the journey of the teenage protagonist, Anahita, on her school trip to an archaeological dig site where she uncovers herself embroiled in a mystery linked with an age-old myth. The film features actors like Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, and Siddharth Shaw, with legendary actress Shernaz Patel voicing the title role of Bokshi.
The film is in Hindi, English and Nepali, and also features Boksirit, a fictional language built by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. The makers have positioned Bokshi as the second Indian feature after Baahubali to use a fictional language.
