Directed again by Chella Ayyavu, the family comedy drama follows the couple juggling parenthood, societal expectations and professional sport ahead of its July 3, 2026, worldwide release.
The makers of Gatta Kusthi 2 released the official trailer on June 28. The sequel to the 2022 family comedy-drama is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 3, 2026. Directed by Chella Ayyavu, who also directed the 2022 original, the sequel returns with lead actors Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi reprising their roles as Veera and Keerthi.
The trailer introduces a role reversal at the centre of the sequel's premise: while Keerthi continues her wrestling career, Veera takes on household responsibilities and supports her ambitions. The original film ended with Veera and Keerthi welcoming a baby girl and Keerthi's wrestling victory, and the sequel picks up in that same domestic setting, with the couple now navigating parenthood alongside the demands of a professional wrestling career and societal expectations of the couple’s roles in the family.
Returning cast members include Karunas, Munishkanth, and Kaali Venkat, who appeared in the first film. New additions to the cast include Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunakaran, Mokksha, and Zara Zyanna.
Gatta Kusthi was released in December 2022 and followed Keerthi, a champion wrestler from Kerala, who enters an arranged marriage with Veera, a conservative man who initially disapproves of her sport. Keerthi conceals her wrestling identity to conform to Veera's expectations, but is eventually forced to reveal it when she intervenes to protect him from a local politician. The film traced how Veera's attitude shifts as he comes to understand the obstacles women face in sport, ending with the couple having a child and Keerthi winning a wrestling tournament.
Written and directed by Chella Ayyavu, music for the film is composed by Sean Roldan, with cinematography by KM Bhaskaran and editing by Barath Vikraman. The film is produced by Ishari K Ganesh and Vishnu Vishal under Vels Film International and Vishnu Vishal Studioz.
