Kamal Haasan has announced a new project titled Sandiyar. Raaj Kamal Films International, Kamal Haasan's production house, is backing the project, which has Anirudh Ravichander on board as composer.

Two earlier posters had also sparked speculation that the film could be a spiritual sequel to Virumaandi (2004). Adding to the connection, the film is titled Sandiyar, the name originally intended for Virumaandi. 'Sandiyar' is also a song from the popular 2004 film.

KH 237, as the film was formerly known, brings Kamal Haasan together with SU Arun Kumar, best known for directing Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Sethupathi and Chittha. The project is speculated to be a gangster drama set against the rustic backdrop of Madurai.

The project is among Kamal Haasan’s upcoming commitments as both an actor and producer. He is also backing Dharman, an action thriller headlined by Rajinikanth, who reportedly plays a doctor in the film. Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, the project features Nayanthara, Simran, Raashii Khanna, Ram Pothineni and Sreeleela. Haasan is also expected to make a significant on-screen appearance in the film.

Meanwhile, the two Tamil cinema legends are set to reunite as actors after nearly five decades. The yet-to-be-titled project will be directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, marking his next collaboration with Rajinikanth following Jailer 2. Anirudh Ravichander is on board as the music composer.

He also has Indian 3 in the pipeline, with the makers confirming the next instalment in the popular Indian franchise recently. The actor will reprise his lead role in the film, which is being written and directed by Shankar.

Kamal Haasan's last theatrical release was Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. He had also announced a collaboration with stunt choreographers-turned-directors Anbariv, who were set to make their directorial debut with the actor. The project, however, has since been delayed.
