JioStudios and Aatpat Productions unveil the first teaser of Nagraj Manjule’s Marathi sports biopic Khashaba, honoring Olympic wrestling legend Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav. Set in post-Independence India, the film traces his journey from rural akharas to a historic 1952 Helsinki bronze, promising a grand, emotionally rich sports drama slated for global release on January 1, 2027.
Jio Studios and Aatpat Productions have unveiled the teaser and announced the worldwide theatrical release of Nagraj Manjule's upcoming sports biopic Khashaba.
The film pays tribute to Independent India’s first individual Olympic medal winner, Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav. The Marathi biographical sports drama continues Manjule's Marathi feature streak, following Fandry (2013) and Sairat (2016).
Khashaba tells the ever-inspiring story of a wrestling legend from Maharashtra who overcame ruthless odds to win a historic bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Touted to become the largest sports drama to ever be mounted in regional cinema, the film brings to life a deeply moving story of Indian sporting history to the global stage.
The teaser, which first premiered in cinemas and is now live digitally, transports viewers back to the days of traditional wrestling mud-pits (akharas) and capture's the film's tremendous cinematic scale, emotional nuance, vibrance, and energy. Rich in nature shots and rooted in the rural landscapes of the post-independent nation, it offers a glimpse into the physical preparation and unrelenting hunger for success that defines this journey.
While the makers have not revealed who will be playing the wrestler, the film will feature an ensemble cast including Jitendra Joshi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Girish Kulkarni, Vaibhav Mangale, Chhaya Kadam and Gargee Kulkarni.
Khashaba features music by the composer duo Ajay-Atul. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Gargee Kulkarni and is set to arrive in theaters worldwide on 1 January 2027.
