'Mirzapur: The Movie' Teaser: Pankaj Tripathi and Ali Fazal Return For Punchy Prequel

The teaser for 'Mirzapur: The Movie' unveils the first footage from the big-screen prequel to the hit crime series, confirming the return of Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Rasika Dugal. Directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by creator Puneet Krishna, the film explores early power struggles in Mirzapur and hits theatres on September 4, 2026 in Hindi and Telugu.

The teaser for Mirzapur: The Movie was released on Thursday, offering the first look at the film adaptation of the popular crime drama series. The teaser revisits several of the series’ central characters and confirms the return of key cast members from the original show, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Rasika Dugal.

The teaser establishes the film as a prequel to the series. Ali Fazal is back as Guddu Pandit, and Pankaj Tripathi's Kaleen Bhaiya is seen in control of Mirzapur. The teaser highlights the fraught relationship between Kaleen Bhaiya and his son Munna, and the tension between Guddu and his father over his pursuit of a life in crime. Divyenndu returns as Munna Tripathi, and the teaser confirms Rajesh Tailang and Sheeba Chadha in returning roles.

Ravi Kishan joins the franchise with this film, appearing in the teaser as a gangster. Jitendra Kumar plays Bablu in the film, a role previously played by Vikrant Massey in the series. Ahead of the teaser launch, the makers had released a batch of character posters featuring Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya and Munna Bhaiya.

The full ensemble of Mirzapur: The Movie includes Abhishek Banerjee, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anjum Sharma, Sonal Chauhan, Pramod Pathak, and Anangsha Biswas.

The film is directed by Gurmeet Singh, who also directed seasons two and three of the series, and written by Puneet Krishna, who created the original show. It is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment. According to prior production details, the film will be released in Hindi and Telugu.

The Mirzapur franchise debuted in 2018 as a streaming series and has completed a total of three seasons. The film, which wrapped its shoot in January 2026, releases on September 4 exclusively in theatres.
