AGS Entertainment, producers of several blockbusters in Tamil, including this year’s Blast and Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon (2024), announced their 29th project on Sunday. Titled ‘AGS 29’ for the moment, the film will star Jai, Priyanka Mohan and Yogi Babu. Both the announcement poster as well as the posters put out earlier for this project feature extensive use of braille, suggesting that the lead character could be playing a visually impaired person.
The new poster is also designed around a female character with props suggesting an action-based film, with a gun, knives and a sword featured predominantly in it. The film is being directed by MS Anandan, who had previously made actor Vishal’s action movie Chakra. The production’s previous release, Blast, too, was a female-led action movie.
As with Blast, Ravi Basrur will be scoring this film as well, and the remaining crew includes Pradeep E Raghav, Balasubramaiem, Kannan S and Phoenix Prasad. It will be produced by AGS Entertainment, with Archana Kalpathi and Aishwarya Kalpathi leading the project. In a recent interview, AGS Entertainment's Creative Producer Archana Kalpathi and Assistant Creative Producer Aishwarya Kalpathi spoke to The Hollywood Reporter India about what makes films like Blast a success among certain age groups.
Archana explained that the audience for such movies is mainly college kids, who she described as the most curious of the lot. IT sector workers, who come either after work or for dates, also make up a large chunk of the audience. But it is when the families and female audiences walk into theatres that a film truly transforms into a blockbuster. That, according to her, is when you witness "absolute magic at the box office.”
Speaking about the reason she chose to make a film about female empowerment, she said, “There are lots of things in society that worry me constantly. I felt that this is something, if it works, will touch a lot of hearts," she says about Blast as she thinks back to some of her previous projects such as Bigil (2019) or Dragon (2025), which had strong female leads, but still revolved around a man's perspective. “When you have a father who brings up a strong daughter, life becomes very easy; I felt that if that daughter was also taught to stand up for society, how would that society be? That was the one-liner of Blast.”
