The new English trailer of Namita Malhotra's Ramayana is out, and it offers what looks to be the most sensory experience of the film yet.
While the first English-dubbed trailer of the epic was released in August this year, plenty of viewers felt it didn't do justice to the film's visuals.
On October 15, the makers announced the new trailer on Instagram, with a caption reading, "Mankind’s greatest story comes to life. From the visual artists behind The Odyssey and Dune watch the new trailer for RAMAYANA: RISE OF A LEGEND - exclusively in theatres, IMAX and Premium Large Formats worldwide November 5. Tickets on Sale now."
While the new trailer maintains some cuts from the previous English version, it also offers new shots from the film, which build the story, assist the larger picture and hint at what the audience can expect from it in terms of the storyline and the VFX, especially with its sharpened colour-grading.
The trailer begins with the text, "Expect mankind's greatest story," and this time, the makers have given equal weight to Ravana's (Yash) story too. In this version, the audience gets a deeper look into the intensifying battle between him and Ram (Kapoor) and many more reasons to believe why the Ramayana is the most expensive Indian film ever made.
The trailer also reintroduces the epic with enhanced colour-grading, moving away from a faded aesthetic, as in the previous trailer, to a brighter and more saturated one.
The visual asset maintains the quick sightings of Ravana's flying chariot and Jatayu, the mythic vulture demigod who attempts to rescue Sita during her abduction by the demon king Ravana. On October 13, the makers also revealed that veteran actor Anupam Kher will be the voice of Jatayu.
Interlocking traditional Indian instrumental tunes, such as drums, string wells and conches, with western beats, the background score has also been noticeably changed, shifting to a more theatrical, driving and climactic tone.
Ramayana Part 1, officially titled Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, stars Kapoor and Yash alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita, Lara Dutta as Queen Kaikeyi, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
Produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios together with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, the film is scheduled to release worldwide on November 6. It will release in both Hindi and English in IMAX and other formats.
