Producer Namit Malhotra has postponed the trailer launch of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part Ramayana adaptation, originally slated for Friday morning, after announcing a global distribution partnership with Sony Pictures. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Ravie Dubey, the ₹4000 crore epic will now have its trailer unveiled later worldwide, ahead of a Diwali 2026 release.
An adaptation of the sacred Indian epic, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is planned as a grand two-part franchise. It will star Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
On Friday, July 24, the film's producer Namit Malhotra announced on social media that the film's trailer has been postponed. In the same post, he revealed a major update, announcing that Sony Pictures has joined the film as the global distributor.
The producer made the announcement in an Instagram post, writing that: "Today is a very special moment for our Ramayana. My dream of taking Ramayana to the world is now a reality with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above, we will be launching our trailer now globally at a later date."
He also added that this would be a "moment of great pride" as the film will be shown globally, at par with any major global Hollywood film. "This is special as it opens the door for people of the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm."
"I thank all the fans and the believers of Ramayana to help make this happen. The youth of our country are our future, let's all do the best we can to protect our future," he concluded.
Ramayana's trailer was scheduled to be released at 8 am on Friday (July 24). The makers have not revealed the new release date yet.
The film, produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, is reportedly mounted on a ₹4000 budget (across both parts) and features an international crew. It is the most expensive Indian film ever made.
Ramayana: Part 1 is set for a global theatrical release on Diwali 2026. The second part will release a year later, on Diwali 2027.
