The trailer of Sardar 2 promises a sequel that appears to be much bigger in scale and size than the first film. The long trailer also shows that the film will largely be set across two timelines, with one set several decades ago and one in the present day. There also appears to be a large portion set outside of India, unlike the first film. With a moral conundrum acting as a conflict for one of the characters being played by Karthi, the trailer assures a complex film that deals with the price one has to pay when working as a spy.
The first film, for the most part, deals with drinking water as a priced commodity, imagining a reality when water may become a cause of disputes between groups of people. While the exact basis for the second film hasn’t been explored in the trailer, it is clear that the character played by SJ Suryah is working with Karthi in the film, at least in one timeline. With parts of the film looking like a prequel as well as a trailer, the film, which releases next week, is sure to go many steps ahead of what the first film covered.
Apart from Karthi and SJ Suryah, the film stars Rajisha Vijayan, Malavika Mohanan and Ashika Ranganath joining the cast. Music and background score are composed by Sam C. S. (in his 100th film) and OfRo, cinematography by George C. Williams and editing by Vijay Velukutty. Principal photography wrapped in June 2025 after more than 100 shooting days, with locations including China and Cambodia.
Sardar followed the story of a dedicated cop who sets out to clear his father's name after being raised with the stigma of being the son of a traitor, only to uncover his father's hidden life and a larger conspiracy. The film also starred Raashii Khanna, Chunky Pandey, Laila, Rithvik, Munishkanth, Avinash, Yugi Sethu, and Balaji Sakthivel.
