Telugu and Hindi film actress Shalini Pandey recently put out a statement condemning an AI-generated video of her that has been circulating online.

"I want to address a fake, AI-generated video of me that is currently being circulated online. The video is completely fabricated and does not depict me. It is deeply disturbing to see technology being misused in this way to target and harm individuals, especially women," she wrote, adding that this kind of misuse must never be normalised. "I strongly condemn this kind of abuse and believe such misuse of technology should never be normalised. If you come across this video, please do not share, forward, download, or engage with it. Instead, please report it immediately. I request everyone to be responsible and mindful, and help stop its circulation rather than giving it further reach. Thank you!"

Shalini's reaction shines a light on the rampant misuse of technology to target women of fame. Kannada film actress Rukmini Vasanth recently reacted to a similarly fabricated video of hers. The actress clarified that the latest images of her circulating on social media were AI-generated, adding that she had initiated all the necessary legal and cybercrime actions.

"My team and I have come across certain AI-generated images being circulated online claiming to be me. I want to state clearly that these images are entirely fake and fabricated. The creation and circulation of such manipulated content is deeply irresponsible and a serious violation of privacy. We are taking this matter seriously and initiating the necessary legal and cybercrime action against those involved in creating and spreading these images. Requesting everyone to refrain from sharing or engaging with such content," she wrote on X and Instagram.
