Set in the fictional village of Maakipur, the comedy-drama follows Subramanyam “Subbu” Chillukuri Rao, a naïve but earnest sex education officer whose temporary posting turns into a life-changing journey as he tackles taboo topics, village resistance, and the strain on his love, family, and career.
Super Subbu, Netflix's first true-blue Telugu original series after the crossover Rana Naidu, will premiere on the platform on July 2. Centered on the adventures of a well-meaning but inexperienced sex education officer, the forthcoming comedy-drama stars Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma. The series is created and directed by Mallik Ram (Tillu Square).
Set in the fictional village of Maakipur, the series follows Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao (Sundeep Kishan), known as Subbu, an earnest young man who takes up a job as a sex education officer despite having no prior experience in the field. What begins as a temporary assignment develops into a transformative personal journey as he navigates the challenges of educating villagers, addressing sensitive subjects and balancing the demands of his personal and professional life
According to the official synopsis, Subbu’s posting raises questions about whether he is willing to risk his love, family and career while adapting to his new role and the unexpected situations it creates.
The series is written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions. The cast also features Getup Srinu, Maanasa Choudhary, Jeevan and Brahmanandam.
Speaking about the series, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, described the title as a refreshing and humorous narrative in a vibrant comic world. “As our first Telugu Original Series, Super Subbu brings together everything we look for in a great story – a distinct local voice, themes that resonate far beyond its setting, and warmth and laughs you will remember long after the show is over.”
Mallik Ram spoke about using humour to open up conversations around sex education through the series. “Humour became the best way to do that because laughter instantly breaks the discomfort,” the filmmaker shared. “At the centre of all the chaos is a very innocent and relatable character, Subbu, trying to find his place in the world. The series also explores family dynamics, generational gaps, and relationships. Having such a fantastic cast across generations and borders brought so much personality and charm to the world of Maakipur, and we’re excited for audiences across the world to step into this quirky little village on Netflix.”
