Christopher Nolan will visit India in July for the first time to attend the global theatrical premiere of his action-fantasy film 'The Odyssey' in Mumbai on July 17. The epic, adapted from Homer’s poem and shot entirely with IMAX cameras, will debut at PVR Icon IMAX: Phoenix Palladium, underscoring Mumbai’s growing status alongside Paris, London and New York on Hollywood’s global map.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan, and the work that precedes him, needs little to no introduction. It is safe to say that his arrival in India this July will be a momentous occasion for both Indian and global cinema, and for good reason.

Marking one of the most notable strides of Hollywood entering India, Nolan is set to touch down in Mumbai to attend the global theatrical debut of his highly-awaited action-fantasy, The Odyssey, on July 17.

He will be accompanied by a few members from the film's lead crew, Matt Damon and Tom Holland, along with Academy Award winning producer Emma Thomas. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron in lead roles.

The Odyssey marks Nolan's return after his 2023 blockbuster and biographical thriller Oppenheimer. The film is a screen adaptation of Homer's epic poem, chronicling Odysseus's ten-year journey home from the Trojan War. It follows Odysseus's tumultuous journey back to Ithaca, encountering creatures like Sirens, the Cyclops Polyphemus, and Calypso.

The decision by Universal Pictures International and the filmmakers to designate Mumbai as an official venue on their global tour is a monumental deal for the city, widely considered a hub for the Indian film industry, as it will place it alongside prominent locations, such as Paris, London, and New York, famously favoured by those in the industry.

The film's premiere in India will be held at PVR Icon IMAX: Phoenix Palladium in Mumbai, and advance Tickets for The Odyssey in IMAX are already on sale in cinemas across India. The Odyssey has been shot around the world using the latest IMAX technology, and is the first-ever feature film to have been shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

The Odyssey is produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan for their company, Syncopy.
