This week's theatrical arrivals span themes and languages — from ancient mythology to small-town family dramas. Across English, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu cinema this week are Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Coimbatore-set biopic G.D.N and rural romantic comedy Oh..! Sukumari, among others.

English
Christopher Nolan's long-awaited adaptation of Homer's epic follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, on his journey home after the Trojan War, encountering figures such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, Sirens and the nymph Calypso along the way, all while trying to reunite with his wife, Penelope. Matt Damon plays Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as their son Telemachus. Lupita Nyong'o appears in a dual role as Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra, Zendaya plays the goddess Athena, and the supporting cast includes Himesh Patel, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Samantha Morton and John Leguizamo. The film will be available in IMAX and other premium large formats.
Tamil
Written and directed by Krishnakumar Ramkumar, this biographical drama tells the story of G.D. Naidu, a pioneer engineer, industrialist and entrepreneur from Coimbatore who developed one of India's first indigenous electric motors along with fans, electric razors, and ticket machines. R. Madhavan plays the lead role, alongside Priyamani, Sathyaraj, Dushara Vijayan, Jayaram, Karunakaran and Thambi Ramaiah. With Govind Vasantha as the film’s composer, and Aravind Kamalanathan as cinematographer, the film is releasing on July 17 across multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
Set in Perambur, Chennai, this comedy revolves around a cross-cultural romance between a Telugu boy and an Anglo-Indian girl, as the couple navigates cultural differences, family expectations and humorous situations arising from their contrasting backgrounds. Written and directed by Pari Elavazhagan, who also plays the lead role opposite Ramya Ranganathan, the film’s cast also includes Roja Selvamani, Chetan and Cell Murugan. The film hits theatres on July 17.
Malayalam
Directed by Shaji Kailas, this action-thriller stars Joju George, Arjun Asokan, Saniya Iyyappan and Vincy Aloshious. The story follows a family that falls victim to the powerful elite in a small town; years later, one man's return forces a confrontation that exposes decades of lies and corruption. The cast also includes Deepak Parambol, Murali Gopy and Baburaj, and the film releases in theatres on July 16.
Telugu
Marking the directorial debut of Bharat Dharshan, this rural romantic entertainer centres on Damini, a woman whose touch sends electric shocks through anyone who comes into contact with her. This prompts her family to keep the secret hidden and arrange her marriage. As the truth is revealed, the newly married couple find themselves in a string of comic situations. Thiruveer and Aishwarya Rajesh play the film’s leads, Yadagiri and Damini, respectively. The film is produced by Maheswara Reddy Mooli under the Gangaa Entertainments banner. It is releasing in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi on July 17.
