Anupama Chopra reviews Bhai Tera Star Hai, director Vivek B. Agrawal's one-night London caper starring Raghav Juyal as Ajay, a hammy aspiring actor chasing superstardom. Anupama finds the film cheerfully incoherent — a plot in which several people owe several other people money, at least two women might or might not be pregnant, a 13-year-old poses as a mugger with a real gun, and a character takes a bullet without a drop of blood in sight. Vivek, who also co-writes, throws everything he has at the frame: long continuous takes, split screens, thought bubbles, animation, infantile sound effects and a camera that swoops and swirls until you're giddy, with the most creativity reserved for the transitions between scenes. Anupama notes that Raghav is a blazing talent — his career-making Fani in Kill in 2023 and his unforgettable Parvaiz in Ba***ds of Bollywood are chalk and cheese, and he was superb as both — which makes this first outing as leading man all the more disappointing, because the film is unable to mine either its actor or its story. The humour is laboured, and the supporting cast, including Sanjay Kapoor as a bar owner named Fatty and creators Niharika NM, Naser Al Azzeh and Vineeth Beep Kumar, look as dazed and confused as the audience. There is one late flash of what this could have been — Ajay meeting an old acting mentor and recreating the iconic police station scene from Zanjeer — but Bhai Tera Star Hai is a train wreck, and that is the THR Bottomline.
