Mumbai witnessed a milestone for Indian pop music last night as Spotify hosted its first-ever I-Pop Icons LIVE event, marking the streaming platform's debut on-ground activation for the genre. The November 7 showcase brought together some of the country's most exciting pop voices, signalling a major push for independent music beyond Bollywood's shadow.

From Sanju Rathod who opened the night with Gulabi Saadi and Shaky to King who closed the night with an unreleased song and Maan Meri Jaan, from Jonita Gandhi who enthralled the 'Jontourage' to Armaan Malik who serenaded the 'Armaanians,' the event had it all. The line up for the night also included artists like Hansika Pareek (Kaise Ab Kahein, Woh Tum Ho) Kushagra (Finding Her, Ratiyan) and Aditya Rikhari (Sahiba, Samjho Na).

I-Pop, short for Indian Pop, represents one of Spotify's key focus areas in the market. The I-Pop Icons playlist sits alongside established sub-brands like Rap 91 and Punjabi 101, spotlighting the country's top pop artists and now providing a platform for live performances.

Speaking at the event, Armaan Malik addressed the broader movement taking shape. "The independent movement is catching up. We want non-film music and I-Pop to become a huge movement," he said, articulating what many in the I-Pop scene have been working towards for years.
