Ali Fazal Reveals Exciting Details About the Upcoming ‘Mirzapur’ Film
The highly anticipated Mirzapur spin-off, set for a 2026 release, brings back the OG cast and takes fans on a time-traveling journey.
At a recent streaming roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter India, critic Suchin Mehrotra asked actor Ali Fazal to offer a sneak peek into the much-anticipated Mirzapur film.
Created by Karan Anshuman for Amazon Prime Video, with scripts co-written by Anshuman, Puneet Krishna, and Vineet Krishna, the show had three successful seasons. Following this, Prime Video announced the upcoming Mirzapur film last month. Fazal, who plays the iconic gangster Govind "Guddu" Pandit, revealed key details about the spin-off film of the hit action-crime thriller Mirzapur’s spin-off.
“We’re bringing back the OG cast,” said Fazal, hinting that the film would also take audiences back in time to revive some characters who were killed off in the series. “It has to go back in time because otherwise they are going to be dead people walking,” he joked.
Fazal also expressed excitement about the film’s theatrical release, drawing comparisons to Peaky Blinders, which made a similar move. “We’re really excited to bring it to theatres. Peaky Blinders just did that, and I don’t think it was an odd choice,” he added.
The Mirzapur series first premiered in November 2018, followed by season two in October 2020, and season three in July 2024.
The Mirzapur film will be directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Excel Entertainment. It is scheduled for release in 2026.
