The 'Pushpa 2' actor had filed a criminal petition in the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the FIR against him, claiming it had no factual basis.
The Hyderabad Police on Friday brought in Telugu star Allu Arjun for questioning in connection with the death of a woman, who suffocated during a stampede at the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre in the city. The actor has been detained at the Chikkadpally Police Station and will reportedly be sent to 14-day police custody.
A video has emerged that sees a team of police officials from Chikkadpally police station coming to Allu Arjun’s residence in Jubilee Hills to take him into custody. He was then shifted to the police station for questioning.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that he could comment on the issue only after knowing more about the case. However, he has also reportedly stated that he wouldn't interfere and will let the law take its course.
The development comes after Allu Arjun filed a criminal petition in the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the First Information Report, which he claimed had no factual basis.
The incident occurred when Allu Arjun visited the theatre premises on the evening of December 4, causing a stampede during the premiere of his latest film. While the woman died due to asphyxiation, her nine-year-old son was admitted to the KIMS Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. The police had filed a case against the theatre management, Allu Arjun, and his security team.
Days after the incident, Allu Arjun also put out a public video, assuring the family financial assistance of ₹ 25 lakh as well as footing the medical expenses of the injured.
"I am deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident at Sandhya Theatre. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving family during this unimaginably difficult time. I want to assure them they are not alone in this pain and I will meet the family personally. While respecting their need for space to grieve, I stand committed to extend every possible assistance to help them navigate through this challenging journey," Allu Arjun had posted on X.
Meanwhile, Pushpa 2: The Rule has emerged as a blockbuster at the box-office, crossing the ₹1000 crore mark within a week of its release.
