Anurag Kashyap, who wrote 'Kennedy' during the lockdown, hopes that the film will be released in India soon.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s neo-noir Kennedy has become the only title from India to feature in the debut lineup of the Letterboxd Video Store, announced on Tuesday. The film, which is currently awaiting an Indian theatrical release, stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone.
On December 10, Letterboxd will officially launch its online film-rental platform, Video Store, featuring a curated mix of acclaimed movies, exclusive Academy Award submissions and festival hits unavailable elsewhere. The movies on Video Store will be available across 23 countries for now, excluding India.
The platform will let its members watch titles on transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) model, free from subscriptions. And nestled among nine hand-picked international films is Kennedy, the thriller that ignited global buzz after its 2023 world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Kashyap, who wrote Kennedy during the lockdown, hopes that the film will be released in India soon. "I am happy that the film will finally be available for the general audience to watch in some parts of the world. It’s one of my most personal films and would love to get the audience feedback and reaction, and I am thankful to Letterboxd for putting it on their new platform. And I am, hopeful that we’ll soon be able to release it in India too as the producers are working on it," the filmmaker adds.

Kennedy is produced by Ranjan Singh, Good Bad Films and Zee Studios. Shot largely at night across Mumbai over an intense 30-day schedule, the film follows an insomniac ex-cop, presumed dead, who continues to work for a corrupt system while seeking redemption.
Singh calls the inclusion a “momentous milestone” for the team, noting that Kennedy has been on an extraordinary global run, travelling to more than 30 film festivals since its Cannes debut. “Yes, it’s a great moment that after traveling to almost 30 festivals across the world, the film will be available to cinephiles in these countries and we are extremely proud as the only Indian film in this line-up," Singh says.
Umesh Bansal, Chief Business Officer, Zee Studios, says the team is extremely elated to see Kennedy being talked about highly in the overseas market. "This is a film, which we are truly proud of."
While Adds Sophie Shi, Head of Studios, EST N8, who’s facilitated the same, adds, "We’re proud to help bring Kennedy to audiences through Letterboxd’s first-ever Video Store. EST N8 is committed to elevating bold Asian storytelling globally, and Kennedy embodies that mission."
The countries where Kennedy will be available are the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Switzerland.
