The trailer teases a gritty neo-political blockbuster, with Vijay Antony stepping into the role of a cunning power broker in his 25th film
In the trailer of Arun Prabhu’s third film Shakthi Thirumagan, we hardly get to see the protagonist. Instead, the trailer sets up a grimy world filled with corruption and lawlessness, with multiple characters describing Vijay Antony’s role in different ways — as a power broker, a gangster, a hustler, and a trickster. The film’s tagline calls it “A Neo Political Blockbuster.” The three-minute trailer also hints that a massive sum of money forms the central conflict, with numbers repeatedly mentioned throughout.
The film marks a significant departure from the kinds of stories Arun Prabhu has made before. He previously directed the super-hit feminist drama Aruvi and the intense road movie Vaazhl. Shakthi Thirumagan also happens to be Vijay Antony’s 25th film as an actor. Antony Film Corporation will present the project, which is produced by Fatima Vijay Antony. The music is composed by Vijay Antony himself, and the film is written and directed by Arun Prabhu.
The cast includes Vijay Antony, Vaagai Chandrasekar, Sunil Kripalani, Cell Murugan, Trupthi Ravindra, Kiran, Rini, Riya Jithu, and Master Keshav. The director of photography is Shelley R. Calist, while editing is handled by Raymond Derrick Crasta and Dinsa.
In July, Vijay Antony made headlines over a dispute involving the title Parasakthi. Both the makers of Sivakarthikeyan–Sudha Kongara’s period drama and the team behind Vijay Antony’s Telugu film claimed rights to the title. Antony released a statement on letterhead from The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC), which stated that Vijay Antony Pictures had registered the title Paraashakthi in Telugu in July last year.
In response, Dawn Pictures issued a series of tweets defending their ownership of the title, asserting that they held rights to Parasakthi in both Tamil and Telugu. To back their claims, they shared official letters from the Tamil and Telugu Producers Council, dated January 11 and 13, confirming their registration of the title.
