SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic has made a strong showing at the box-office. The film, a re-edited, one-cut version of the iconic Baahubali duology, has netted ₹26.24 crore domestically in five days, according to estimates posted by tracking website Sacnilk. Despite a steady dip in collections, the film has emerged as one of the most successful re-releases of all time.
As per Sacnilk, Baahubali: The Epic has a worldwide gross of close to ₹40 crores. The film is positioned to overtake the top-earning re-release of the year, the Hindi romantic film Sanam Teri Kasam, which was only re-released domestically.
With a whopping 225-minute running time, Baahubali: The Epic returns viewers to the enchanting world of Mahishmati, boasting epic battles and a larger-than-life story. A landmark film that rewrote the rules of Indian cinema, Baahubali stars Prabhas in a double role along with Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishna, Nassar, Sathyaraj, Subbaraju and Adivi Sesh. The re-release cut is playing in IMAX and 2D formats, with Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam and Tamil versions in theatres.
The film was granted a U/A certificate by the CBFC and released in cinemas on October 31. While notable scenes and songs were trimmed to achieve the single-feature runtime, SS Rajamouli and his team have also added a small sequence featuring Nassar and a soldier.
In its review of Baahubali: The Epic, The Hollywood Reporter India observed, “(The film) is a celebration of Indian storytelling at its most operatic. It brims with rousing melodrama, makes its overstuffed way through a thumping background score, and flings at you a team’s ambition so large it barely fits within the IMAX frames. You may have seen it before, but it still makes you sit back, wide-eyed and ready to experience its creator's magical vision all over again.”
