After appearances on international shows like Frasier and The Big Bang Theory, American philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will make his Indian television debut in the new-fangled reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

According to reports, Gates will cameo via video call on an elaborate three-episode sequence in the popular soap, discussing social issues with Tulsi Virani, the lead character played by actor-politician Smriti Irani. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation focuses on issues of public health that the segment will highlight.

ETimes quoted a source as saying, "The track will culminate in a video call between Bill Gates and Smriti Irani and will span around three episodes. The storyline focuses on creating and improving awareness about the health of pregnant women and newborns. Since the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation actively works on these causes, the collaboration came about naturally. Smriti wanted to use the show as a platform to promote health and social awareness through storytelling."

One of the most recognisable public figures in the world, Bill Gates has, over the years, cultivated strong ties with India, visiting the country thrice in a span of three years. In March this year, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss technology and innovation. "I had a great discussion with @narendramodi about India’s development, the path to Viksit Bharat @ 2047, and exciting advancements in health, agriculture, AI, and other sectors that are creating impact today. It's impressive to see how innovation in India is driving progress locally—and globally," Gates had tweeted.
