Jennie’s latest song teaser sparks backlash as fans accuse her of copying 'Rani's Intro Theme' from Karan Johar’s blockbuster hit.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie is no stranger to controversy. From dating rumours to being criticised for her stage performances and even alleged smoking scandals, the K-pop sensation has frequently found herself under scrutiny. Now, as she gears up for the release of her highly anticipated debut solo album, 'Ruby', Kim is once again at the centre of a heated debate — this time over plagiarism claims.
At the heart of the controversy is 'Rani's Intro Theme' from Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). The track, composed by renowned Indian music director Pritam Chakraborty, was used as an introduction to Alia Bhatt’s character, Rani, which quickly became one of most popular tracks from the album.
Following the teaser release of her upcoming song, 'Like Jennie', set to drop on March 7, a nine-second snippet, was aired recently. Since BLACKPINK is known to have a substantial Indian audience, it immediately sparked a debate online, many of whom accused the K-pop star of lifting elements from the Indian song.
Fans were quick to point out striking similarities between Kim's teaser and the Bollywood song, particularly in its rhythmic beats and overall tonality. She also launched her own agency, Odd Atelier for her solo pursuits last year, with 'Ruby' being their first album to be launched.
