Tamil film Blast is making a splash at the box office. The martial arts film, led by Arjun Sarja and Preity Mukhundhan, has crossed ₹50 crore at the global box office.

Filmed reportedly on a budget of ₹18 crore, the film has gone on to make incremental returns at the box office. "Thank you for a Blockbuster second weekend at the box office #Blast," wrote Archana Kalpathi, the producer of the film, on X.

In a recent interview, AGS Entertainment's Creative Producer Archana Kalpathi and Assistant Creative Producer Aishwarya Kalpathi spoke to The Hollywood Reporter India about what makes films like Blast a success among certain age groups.

Archana explains that the audience for such movies is mainly college kids, who she describes as the most curious of the lot. IT sector workers, who come either after work or for dates, also make up a large chunk of the audience. But it is when the families and female audiences walk into theaters that a film truly transforms into a blockbuster. That, according to her, is when you witness "absolute magic at the box-office."

Directed by Subash K Raj, the Tamil film also co-stars Abhirami. "It’s a longish movie of around 140 minutes, and all of this plotting takes its time to finally make sense. Oddly, Blast is also that rare film that gives the author’s backing to the bad guys over the good ones. But it’s not that Subash doesn’t know what he’s getting to and the patience he’s demanding from us. For a film about a karate-trained family and the people they need to keep out of their lives, it has its way of earning its big moments," read THR India's review of the film.
