'Coolie' Fever: Singapore Firm Announces Paid Holiday, Free Tickets Ahead of Rajinikanth's Latest
The celebrations have begun ahead of Rajinikanth's 'Coolie', with companies in India and Singapore doling out paid leaves and free tickets to employees
Coolie fever has spread beyond the national borders and gripped Southeast Asia. Ahead of the worldwide release of Rajinikanth’s latest, a firm in Singapore has announced a paid holiday for its Tamil workers to watch the film on release day. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is set to hit theatres globally on August 14.
The firm in question, Farmer Constructions PTE Ltd, is also providing first-day-first-show tickets and a $30 Singaporean dollar food and beverage allowance. Details of the same were mentioned in a company circular, which promptly went viral online. A second firm, SB MART, a popular supermarket chain in Singapore, is suspending operations between 7 am to 11:30 am on August 14 due to the release of Coolie. "Business will resume as usual from 11.30 am onwards. Sorry for the inconvenience caused," read a note by the firm's director.
Earlier, a Madurai-based company, Uno Aqua Care, with multiple branches across South India, announced a paid holiday and free tickets for its employees ahead of Coolie. The move was made in anticipation of a flurry of leave requests, and also to deter piracy.
"On account of the release of SUPER STAR RAJINI'S movie "COOLIE" we have decided to declare holiday on 14th August 2025 in efforts to avoid piled up leave request to the HR DEPARTMENT. And also we are going to celebrate festival of 50th year of Rajinism like food to orphanage and old-age home then sweets to public. We also take the privilege of going the extra mile to support antipiracy by providing free tickets for the former to UNO AQUA employees," read a circular.
Also starring Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan and Aamir Khan, Coolie is shaping up to be the cinematic event of the month. The film has already shattered records in advance sales, making around ₹80 crore globally, the highest ever for a Tamil film. According to tracking website Sacnilk, the film is projected to gross over ₹125 crore on its opening day. It is poised to give tough competition to War 2, the marquee Hindi release of the week starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
