‘Punjab 95,’ initially set to debut at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), was pulled from the lineup without an official explanation.
Punjabi superstar and singer Diljit Dosanjh has shared a series of stills from his highly-anticipated film Punjab 95 on social media, hinting at a potential release next month. The film, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by RSVP Movies, is inspired by the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The cast also includes Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky.
Earlier, the film encountered delays after facing issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Dosanjh, who has been making headlines for his Dil-Luminati Tour, is known for his outspoken nature and persistent dissent. The singer has often questioned authorities who sought to ban his songs for referencing alcohol. In response, Dosanjh famously retaliated by altering his lyrics and calling for state governments to ban alcohol altogether.
On Saturday, he posted pictures from the movie on Instagram, captioned with: “I Challenge the Darkness. Punjab 95 In February.”
In 2023, the film was originally slated for its world premiere at TIFF, but was unexpectedly removed from the schedule, with no formal explanation from the festival organisers.
The film sheds light on Jaswant Singh Khalra’s investigations into the cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab between 1984 and 1994. Khalra disappeared in 1995; in 2005, four police officers were arrested for his alleged kidnapping and murder. In 2007, the Punjab and Haryana High Court extended the officers’ initial seven-year sentences to life imprisonment.
