Less than a week ago, news broke out that the Delhi police had refused clearance to Diljit Dosanjh's Aura India Tour concert stop planned for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi due to security concerns.
Now, the organisers made some headway to go ahead with the show, but with a couple major changes to the original plan.
According to a report by Indian Express, Dosanjh’s concert will be equipped with a much more extensive security deployment than was initially planned. Delhi Police has recommended between 1,500 and 2,000 private guards be arranged, compared to the 400 suggested by the organisers. The additional number is expected to manage the crowd at the venue, which has a capacity of 55,000 visitors.
The change comes after discussions between Delhi Police and the event organisers, following Delhi Police's former decision to deny permission for the show due to security concerns and the easily breached law and order commitments during festival season.
The private guards will also assist fans at help kiosks, guide them to the correct gates and ensure smooth pedestrian movement around the stadium.
Additionally, the organisers have been requested to arrange for more parking around the venue and work with ride sharing and navigation platforms to resolve traffic congestion and manage pick-ups from and drop-offs to the venue.
Delhi police have also extended the security measures to restricted vehicle movement within a 500-to-700-meter radius around the stadium. The venue will have a pedestrian-only zone which will strictly allow entry to vehicles carrying the artist and those with event authorisation.
On the performance front, the organisers may plan to extend the performance ramp so Dosanjh can move closer to and interact with fans. This proposal still awaits final security clearance.
