After the successful launch of Aditi Shankar as an actor in a series of Tamil movies including Karthi’s Viruman and Sivakarthikeyan’s Maaveeran, it’s now the turn of director Shankar's son Arjith to be launched in the movies, that too as hero. Arjith had worked as an assistant director on the sets of AR Muragadoss’ Madharaasi and was also said to have assisted on his father’s film Game Changer, starring Ram Charan.

According to reports, the newcomer will debut as lead in a film directed by Atlee’s assistant Siva. It is also interesting that note that Atlee himself was once an assistant director to Arjith’s father Shankar. The film is being produced by Passion Studios, and the Tamil film is set to start rolling next month in September.

Meanwhile, at a recent event, director Shankar had spoken up about his desire to make the Tamil film Velpari, along the lines of a Hollywood production like Game Of Thrones. Based on CPI(M) MP Su Venkatesan’s novel, 'Velpari' traces the life of the legendary Tamil ruler Vel Paari and his resistance against the Chera, Chola, and Pandya dynasties.

“Once, my dream project was Enthiran, now it is Velpari,” the director said at the event, where superstar Rajinikanth was also present as the chief guest. “As far as I believe, this film could be one of the biggest ventures ever made, owing to the elements of costume, art, and the level of production it will require. However, the scope of technology makes me say that Velpari would be a global-standard movie, on par with the likes of Game of Thrones or Avatar.

Despite the setbacks of his last two films, Indian 2 and Game Changer, both of which failed to meet expectations, Shankar appears determined to reset the course of his filmmaking career with Velpari. With industry support, including Rajinikanth’s public endorsement at the event, and a renewed creative vision, it could mark a major turning point in the director’s journey.
