The two artists performed a collaborative track combining Sheeran’s global hit 'Shape of You' and Rahman’s legendary Tamil song 'Urvasi Urvasi'
Ed Sheeran's ongoing +–=÷× or Mathematics tour in India took a special turn on February 5, 2025, as he shared the stage with legendary music composer AR Rahman in Chennai. The two artists performed a collaborative track combining Sheeran’s global hit 'Shape of You' and Rahman’s legendary Tamil song 'Urvasi Urvasi'. Fans cheered loudly as Rahman joined Sheeran in his signature all-black attire, complete with sunglasses.
Despite all the excitement, there were some technical issues with Rahman’s microphone that somewhat hindered the performance. However, Sheeran, ever the professional, stepped in to cover for him and kept the energy high. The singer posted a video from the performance on Instagram, with a caption that read, "What an honour..."
Sheeran also surprised fans last year by bringing Diljit Dosanjh on stage during his Mumbai concert, and this collaboration, similarly, was widely celebrated on social media, with fans expressing admiration for the musical union of two global talents.
In the lead-up to his 2025 concert, Sheeran had also interacted with Rahman’s son, A R Ameen, and spent time at Rahman’s KM College of Music & Technology in Chennai, where he performed his hit track 'Perfect' with the students. His current tour, which began in India recently, will continue until February 15, culminating in a performance in Delhi-NCR.
This collaboration exemplifies the power of cross-cultural artistic exchanges, offering fans a rare treat of global and local musical icons coming together.
