Emraan Hashmi Quashes Rumours of Joining Neeraj Pandey's R.D. Burman Biopic

After several media reports announced that Emraan Hashmi has joined the cast of Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming biopic of music composer R.D. Burman, Hashmi publicly denied claims that he had been cast as actor-comedian Mehmood in the biopic.

Quashing the rumour through a post on X, the actor wrote, "Just to clarify, the reports about me playing Mehmood saab in a biopic are untrue. I haven’t been approached for the film, nor am I doing it."

The clarification came after several reports claimed that Hashmi would portray Mehmood — one of Hindi cinema's most popular comedic actors of the 1960s and 1970s, and a close friend of R.D. Burman. As per the news, the film aims to explore the close friendship and creative collaborations between the veteran actor and the legendary music composer.

The biopic is being directed by Neeraj Pandey and jointly produced by Pandey's banner and Excel Entertainment.

It was also recently announced that Akshay Kumar has come on board the project. While it is yet-to-be-confirmed what role he will be playing, the reports also suggest that Kumar has been cast as veteran actor, film producer and politician Rajesh Khanna.

While information regarding the film has been kept secret, Kumar's character is said to add immense value to the narrative.

Currently said to be in pre-production, the film is expected to go on floors in September, with further casting details due to be announced soon.
