Exclusive | Babil Khan Begins Shoot for Malayalam Debut ‘Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market’ in Siliguri

Actor Babil Khan has begun shooting for his Malayalam debut film, Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market, in Siliguri. The film is directed by Babu Janardhanan and marks Khan’s first project in Malayalam cinema.

The film features an ensemble cast including Aparna Balamurali, Deepak Parambol, Nikhil Nair, Johny Antony, Jagadish, Sudheer Karamana, Athmiya Rajan and Jayashankar. An IMDb synopsis for the film reads, "(Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market) follows a migrant worker who arrives in Kerala carrying hope and dreams of a better life, as his experiences and journey unfold in the migrant labour hub of Perumbavoor."

In a statement to THR India, Babil expressed his excitement for debuting in the Malayalam film industry. “Malayalam cinema has always held a very special place in my heart because of the honesty, sensitivity, and emotional depth with which stories are told," he said. "As an actor, I’ve always believed that growth comes from stepping into the unknown and surrendering yourself completely to a new world, new people, and new emotions. Beginning the shoot for Gandhi Bazar Sunday Market in Siliguri feels incredibly exciting, emotional, and creatively fulfilling for me.”

Babil was last seen in the 2025 cyber-thriller Logout, directed by Amit Golani. Son of late actor Irfan, he made his acting debut in Anvita Dutt's Qala, followed by roles in Friday Night Plan (2023) and The Railway Men (2023).

A noted screenwriter for many decades, Babu Janardhanan made his directorial debut with Bombay March 12 (2011), a drama set against the backdrop of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts and led by Mammootty. He followed it with Lisammayude Veedu and later directed God for Sale, a satire on the business of faith and self-styled godmen.
