Following the massive footprint of the Drishyam franchise in India, Panorama Studios is officially taking the IP global with simultaneous international adaptations in major overseas markets.
Director Abhishek Pathak confirmed that development on the Korean, Spanish, and Hollywood remakes of the thriller is moving at a rapid pace, with filming scheduled to wrap up on key versions by the end of the year.
Ahead of the release of the hugely awaited Drishyam: The Conclusion, led by Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Jaideep Ahlawat, Pathak told THR India, "The Korean remake is going into production in about a month or so, and the Spanish version is already underway. The Hollywood version is currently being written. We expect both the Korean and Spanish films to start off first, with principal photography across these major markets wrapping by the end of the year."
The filmmaker confirmed that each adaptation will receive a traditional theatrical release in its respective territory, mounted in partnership with local studios and producers.
"These are theatrical releases in those territories, produced alongside local partners: individual Korean, Spanish, and US producers," he says.
"We are starting with Part 1, with plans to eventually move into Part 2 and Part 3. The brand has a strong international lineup ahead."
With the franchise's mounting global scale and intense fan speculation surrounding its future, theories have emerged online suggesting that the character of Vijay Salgaonkar could eventually be recast with different actors over time, akin to James Bond.
Pathak, however, firmly dismisses the idea of continuing the Hindi franchise.
"I think trying to do anything like that with Vijay Salgaonkar is far too risky," Pathak says. "There is no point in attempting that when you have built something so beautifully. It's better to step away and let the film’s legacy and hype live on for years to come."
Drishyam: The Conclusion also stars Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Kamlesh Sawant, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav.
