One of the world’s most successful virtual bands Gorillaz is set to perform in India for the first time in their 25-year career, with a two-city run scheduled across Bengaluru and Mumbai in January 2027.

Created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the BRIT and GRAMMY Award-winning act will play District Arena @ Terraform in Bengaluru on January 23, followed by a Mumbai date at Jio World Garden, BKC on January 27. The shows will be produced and exclusively ticketed by District by Zomato, with Mastercard pre-sales opening April 13 and general ticket sales beginning April 18.

The India leg follows the release of The Mountain, the band’s ninth studio album, which anchors this tour cycle. Released in February 2026, the project is closely tied to India, having been partly written and recorded across the country and featuring collaborations with Indian artists including Asha Bhosle and Anoushka Shankar, alongside Ajay Prasanna, Asha Puthli, and sarod duo Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash.

Beyond its sonic direction, The Mountain reflects a deeper engagement with India as a cultural and philosophical reference point. Developed during a period of personal loss for its creators, the album draws from themes of mortality and continuity, ideas that took shape during Albarn and Hewlett’s time in India marking one of the band’s most introspective and succesfull bodies of work to date.

Adding to the announcement, co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett shared their excitement about the India debut.

“It has been and remains a dream of mine to bring Gorillaz in all its technicolour glory to India,” Albarn said. “It’s just the beginning and I truly look forward to the experience.”

Hewlett added, “Our dream has always been to do a tour of India. We’re very excited about returning to play shows in Mumbai and Bengaluru.”

The India debut may have been inevitable, but it lands differently now. With The Mountain drawing directly from Indian artists and influences, the tour feels less like an expansion and more like a continuation of the narrative that India continues to actively shape global narratives.
