Gurinder Chadha’s 'Christmas Karma' Starring Kunal Nayyar Sets November India Release
Also starring Eva Longoria, 'Christmas Karma' is backed by Civic Studios.
Filmmaker Gurinder Chadha's latest feature, Christmas Karma, is set to release in India next month. Billed as a contemporary Bollywood musical set in London and inspired by Charles Dickens' much-loved 'A Christmas Carol', the film is headlined by Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory).
With music written by acclaimed British singer-songwriter Gary Barlow, Shaznay Lewis and Nitin Sawhney, Christmas Karma is backed by Civic Studios.
Nayyar said, "To explore a beloved holiday tale through the eyes of an immigrant story (much like my own) is exactly the kind of movie that I believe will resonate with so many of us who are searching for the meaning of home. It takes a visionary like Gurinder to take a chance on a story like this, and I am humbled to be a part of it. "
Commenting on the new feature, Anushka Shah, CEO, Civic Studios, said the team was thrilled to partner with Chadha for Christmas Karma, which she called an "ambitious international project that speaks to audiences around the world."
Chadha, who has also written and produced the film, said it was an honour to work with "amazing Indian female producers." The filmmaker is known for helming titles like Bend It Like Beckham, Bhaji on the Beach, Bride and Prejudice, It's a Wonderful Afterlife, Viceroy's House, Blinded by the Light and the television show Beecham House (2019).
Christmas Karma also stars Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives), Boy George, Billy Porter, Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), Leo Suter, Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton), Pixie Lott, Danny Dyer, Bilal Hasna, Allan Corduner, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Rufus Jones, Eve and Nitin Ganatra.
Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler and Amory Leader are attached as producers, while Zygi Kamasa, Anushka Shah, Paul Mayeda Berges, Sophia Pedlow, Hannah Leader will serve as executive producers.
