'Ikkis' was initially gearing up to open on December 25 and clash with 'Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri'.
Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan's upcoming war drama Ikkis has been pushed from its original release date of Christmas 2025. The film, headlined by Agastya Nanda and featuring the late Dharmendra in his final screen appearance, was initially gearing up to open on December 25 and clash with Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday.
Ikkis will now release on January 1, when no major Hindi films are scheduled to release. The makers made the official announcement and wrote, "A powerful story of courage to open the New Year. Ikkis in cinemas January 1, 2026."
There were reports that the makers didn't want the film to arrive during a crowded holiday period, which is already witnessing a historic box-office run with Ranveer Singh-led Dhurandhar, and will then see James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash opening on Friday, a week before Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri.
Producer Dinesh Vijan had previously reshuffled release dates of his films, including Hindi Medium and Chhaava, both of which benefitted from a clear theatrical run.
Amitabh Bachchan, Agastya's maternal grandfather, took to X and hinted that the reason for the delay of the film by a week could be due to astrology. The screen icon tweeted, "Ikkis was earlier set for the twenty-fifth (25), now it will be in the twenty-sixth (’26), on the first (1st). Some astrology-knowing folks said, 'Brother, the omen is good—keep moving, just keep moving.' (sic)"
Ikkis marks Raghavan's first war film as he brings to life the extraordinary true story of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, India’s youngest Param Vir Chakra awardee. The film also stars Simar Bhatia and Jaideep Ahlawat. Agastya made his screen debut in 2023 with Zoya Akhtar's Netflix film The Archies, which also marked the debut of Shah Rukh Khan's daughter, Suhana Khan.
