'Jailer 2': Rajinikanth Reveals Film Will Be Released on June 12, 2026
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the shooting of Jailer 2 is currently underway in multiple locations around the country
Superstar Rajinikanth has officially announced the release date for his highly anticipated next film, Jailer 2. The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster will hit theatres on June 12, 2026.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the shooting of Jailer 2 is currently underway in multiple locations around the country, most recently being Palakkad in Kerala. Several pictures and videos of Rajinikanth, Nelson as well as others from the film's cast and crew made the rounds on social media.
Rajinikanth returned to Chennai to continue work on the project, when he was asked by reporters about the status of the film. The Superstar, last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, then revealed that the release date for the action-comedy would be June 12.
Jailer (2023) followed the life of a retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, who tries to find his missing son and ends up crossing paths with an eccentric idol smuggler Varman. The action-comedy became a blockbuster and the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 looks to be a continuation of the storyline from the first part, which starred others like Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi and Yogi Babu. Notably, actors Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar appeared in much-hyped cameos as well.
It was also confirmed recently that Rajinikanth would join hands with Kamal Haasan again, with both actors coming together on-screen after decades. Haasan said, "We have been itching to work together for a long time. Like how a biscuit was being split into two, we had then demanded that we each be given a whole biscuit each. Now we’ve found the joy again to realise that we are both happy with just that half biscuit again. So we’ll come together.”
Though the director of the project is not confirmed yet, the likes of Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nelson Dilipkumar, Mani Ratnam and Pradeep Ranganathan are all touted to be potential candidates to helm the film.
