The first look of actor Vijay from his upcoming film Jana Nayagan was released on the occasion of the actor’s 51st birthday on Sunday (June 22) with a short video. The film is set to release on January 9, 2026, for the occasion of Pongal. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan will mark the Tamil superstar's final film before he gets into full-time politics.
‘The First Roar’ video introduces Vijay as a cop holding a sword in the film, set to Anirudh Ravichander’s background score that chants "Thalapathy". This is Anirudh’s fifth collaboration with Vijay after Kaththi, Master, Beast, and Leo.
While plot details of the final film remain undisclosed, promotional materials suggest that Jana Nayagan will be a political action drama. The film’s first look paid homage to Vijay’s widely circulated selfie from the sets of Master in Neyveli in 2020, while the second look featured him wielding a whip with the tagline “Naan Aanai Ittaal,” a reference to an iconic song from late actor-politician M.G. Ramachandran’s 1965 film Enga Veettu Pillai.
Even with his final release, Vijay is continuing his 20 year long association with Pongal openings. Previously the star's films such as Thirupaachi (2005), Pokiri (2007), Nanban (2012), Master (2021), and Varisu (2023) all released on Pongal.
The film’s ensemble cast includes Pooja Hegde in her second collaboration with Vijay after Beast (2022), Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Narain, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Mamitha Baiju.
Cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, editor Pradeep E Ragav, and stunt choreographer Anal Arasu are also part of the project. Jana Nayagan will be produced by Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions and co-produced by Jagadish Palanisamy and Lohith NK.
The anticipation surrounding Jana Nayagan has intensified with Vijay’s political aspirations. In early 2024, the actor announced his political entry, positioning his party against “corruption” and “divisiveness” in Tamil Nadu politics. He has confirmed that his party will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
