Actor-producer Kamal Haasan has announced his next film with director SU Arun Kumar, the filmmaker behind critically acclaimed films such as Chithha and Veera Dheera Sooran. On September 3, Raaj Kamal Films International offered the first glimpse of the project, sharing a still from Kamal Haasan’s photoshoot.
The production house teased the collaboration with the cryptic phrase “Dho Vaaren” meaning “Here I come,” while tagging Kamal Haasan and SU Arun Kumar. The post has already sparked curiosity about the actor’s latest on-screen avatar.
In the glimpse, Kamal Haasan is dressed in a black shirt and olive-green trousers, sporting an intense look as he holds a sickle. The makers are yet to reveal the film’s title, plot or other cast members.
The project brings together one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors and a filmmaker who has steadily established himself as a director to watch. Arun Kumar made his directorial debut with Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, followed by Sethupathi. He went on to earn widespread acclaim for Chithha, the Siddharth-starrer that tackled a sensitive subject with considerable impact. He most recently directed Veera Dheera Sooran, starring Vikram.
For Kamal Haasan, the new collaboration comes at an interesting point in his career. His most recent release, Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, arrived in theatres in 2025, marking the reunion of the Nayakan duo after decades. Despite the considerable anticipation surrounding the film and its star-studded cast, Thug Life underperformed at the box office.
Following Thug Life, Kamal Haasan had announced two major projects. One was a collaboration with stunt choreographers-turned-directors Anbariv, who were set to make their directorial debut with the actor. The project, however, has since been delayed.
Kamal is also set to share the screen with longtime friend and fellow superstar Rajinikanth in a film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The project, which is expected to begin production in 2027, has generated significant anticipation as it marks the first major on-screen collaboration between the two actors in decades. The film will also bring Kamal and Rajinikanth together under the direction of the Jailer filmmaker. Kamal is also producing Rajinikanth's Dharman, for which Ashwath Marimuthu was announced as director.
More details about the film’s title, cast, plot and production timeline of Kamal's new film are expected to be announced by Raaj Kamal Films International in the coming days.
