The film is said to have already collected a pre-release online booking amount of over ₹4 crore.
According to a report in the Deccan Herald, Kantara: Chapter 1, starring Rishab Shetty, has already clocked in pre-release online booking amount of ₹4 crore by Saturday, the 27th of September. The report went on to add that the Kannada-language original will get 906 shows across India, including 183 shows on day one in Bengaluru PVR multiplexes alone.
Box office tracker Sacnilk claimed that the film had recorded a booking that sold 66,472 tickets across all languages, earning ₹4.71 crore in India by Saturday. In Karnataka alone, the collection is said to have earned ₹3.92 crore. Although the 2022 first part became a pan-Indian sensation shortly after release, it wasn't designed to be one. But for the prequel, Shetty and makers Hombale Films are going all out.
“With every film, I learn from the mistakes of the previous one,” he said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India. “But then I go ahead and make a new mistake. That’s the journey. After every release, I realise what worked, what didn’t, and I carry those lessons forward. But the learning never ends. This is my fifth film; Kantara was my fourth. But even today, it feels like I am making my first film, because this is my first pan-India project. The growth is in the script itself, in the screenplay, in the characters, in their arcs. You have to explore more, challenge yourself more. But through all of this, my belief remains the same: only the story matters. If I don’t believe in the story, I can’t make the film"
The prequel, which is produced by Hombale Films, co-stars Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram in key roles. The film has cinematography by Arvind Kashyap and music by Ajaneesh Loknath. It's set to hit the theatres on October 2.
