The trailer of Netflix’s upcoming film Kartavya was unveiled today. The trailer offers a glimpse into a morally ambiguous world where Khan, playing a cop, struggles to find his footing. His character, Pawan, comes under intense scrutiny after failing to protect a journalist who is shot while under his watch. As pressure mounts from senior officers, Pawan is pulled into a relentless manhunt for the assailant, one that gradually draws him into a maze of power, influence, and deception.
Simultaneously, his personal life begins to fall apart as his family faces threats linked to a dispute involving his brother, dragging Pawan into battles both within the system and at home. As the investigation deepens, he finds himself caught between duty and family, where every decision comes at a price.
Saif Ali Khan described Pawan as a man caught in a constant battle with himself, torn between personal morality, professional expectations, and the need to protect those closest to him. Reflecting on what drew him to the role, he said, “What drew me to Kartavya is that it doesn’t offer easy answers; it puts you in uncomfortable spaces and forces you to ask what you would do when every choice comes at a personal cost.”
Talking about his second association with Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix, director Pulkit shared, “Kartavya is a story that lives in the grey, where every choice carries a cost and certainty is always out of reach. We set out to craft a grounded, emotionally charged narrative that looks beyond the surface of crime to explore the human conflict at its core.”
The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Rasika Dugal, last seen in the black comedy Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, alongside Sanjay Mishra, who most recently appeared in the JioHotstar drama series Chiraiya. Also joining the ensemble is Zakir Hussain, who played Vashisht Sharma in Akshay Kumar’s Bhooth Bangla, released last month.
The Red Chillies Entertainment-produced film is set to premiere on Netflix on May 15.
