Kiran Abbavaram to Lead Pan-Indian Mythological Film ‘Indraputra’

Zee Studios and producer Prerna Arora announced the title of their pan-Indian mythological film on August 9. Titled Indraputra, the film stars Kiran Abbavaram in the lead role.

The makers have shared that Indraputra will be the first chapter of a larger mythological saga rooted in Indian mythology. It is directed by Srikanth Puppala and is currently in pre-production, with principal photography scheduled to begin in October 2026.

The film is produced by Zee Studios and Prerna Arora, with Keerthan and Kussum Arora serving as co-producers. The announcement does not specify which narrative tradition or text the film will draw from. The film's framing as the first chapter of a universe suggests a multi-film saga is to follow.

No details about the ensemble cast, technical crew, budget or release date have been announced. The makers have indicated that further announcements will follow in the coming months.

Lead actor Kiran Abbavaram is a Telugu actor who made his debut with Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru (2019) and has since appeared in SR Kalyanamandapam (2021), Sebastian P.C. 524 (2022) and Dhamki (2023). His most recent release was Chennai Love Story (2026).

Srikanth Puppala makes his feature directorial debut with Indraputra. Prerna Arora has previously produced films including Rustom (2016), Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Pari (2018). Zee Studios has co-produced and distributed several large-scale Indian productions across languages, and some of their recent productions projects include Jana Nayagan (2026), Nagabandham: The Secret Treasure (2026), Dhadak 2 (2025).

The announcement of Indraputra comes during a period of significant activity in the Indian mythological genre. Ramayana: Part 1, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release. Thamizh Murugan, directed by Vetri Maaran and starring Dhanush, was announced in July 2026. In June, Eros Innovation announced a new mythology-based cinematic universe as part of its large-scale upcoming three-part content slate.
